Build Your Passion or Your Resume Through Digital Literacy

Author: Maisy Armstrong, Student Technology Consultant

There is no better time to practice and master digital programs. In the midst of COVID, it has become increasingly important to have a handle on technology as a means to conduct business, communicate, and get creative. Wake offers numerous ways to explore your Media-related passions, whether in person or from your dorm room. Whether you’re looking to casually investigate or build your resume, here are three ways to become more digitally involved this semester.

  1. WakerSpace Virtshops: If you haven’t had the chance to check out the WakerSpace in person, you still have the opportunity to get involved digitally this semester! WakerSpace is offering Adobe Bootcamp themed VirtShops that are available over zoom. The classes are fun, hands-on ways to improve and enhance your familiarity with programs like InDesign, Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and more. This past semester, I took two courses that improved my skills with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Spark. Not only was I able to ask questions of the instructor and explore the programs, I also left the sessions having created two projects to add to my digital portfolio. Being only an hour long, these sessions are both informative and reasonable to incorporate into busy academic schedules. Click here to get signed up! WakerSpace – Adobe Bootcamps (wfu.edu)
  2. LinkedIn Learning: Though a LinkedIn Learning subscription would typically set you back thirty dollars a month, Wake Forest provides the service to students as a part of their tuition. This resource is invaluable to those who are hoping to learn and master new programs. The courses provided are taught by industry experts and help you to develop both technical and creative skills. I recently poured over the website using the discovery feature to find the courses most relevant to my interests of photography, editing work, and art. Spending an hour or two per week on LinkedIn Learning can help to significantly improve your digital skills: check out this link to learn more about accessing LinkedIn Learning!
